The Constitution of the British Schools Gymnastics Association (BSGA)

1. NAME

The Association will be called the British Schools Gymnastic Association, hereinafter known as the BSGA.

The BSGA will be an affiliated body to the British Gymnastic Association (BG) and to the National Council for School Sports. (NCSS)

 

2. AIM

The aim of the Association is the advancement of the mental, moral and physical welfare and development of school pupils through the medium of gymnastics.

 

3. OBJECTIVES

  • To promote and help provide a gymnastics competition pathway for school teams and/or individuals in schools and school age children that are home educated
  • To organise courses within the regions for the promotion of gymnastics and to provide teacher/coach education.
  • To provide opportunities, nationally, for the personal development of the individual gymnast and provide advanced teacher/coach education.
  • Arrange and support competitions for and between the home nations and Great Britain including the World School Games.

 

4. ELIGIBILITY

Participants must be,

  • in full time education (on a school admission register), or home educated and under the age of 19 years, (school year of competition). They should not be a professional gymnast. The question whether a person is or is not a professional at any time shall be determined by the Board of Control of BG in accordance with the Bye Laws of British Gymnastics, and such a decision shall be final and binding.
  • affiliated to the BSGA ~ Students at university are excluded

 

5. AFFILIATION

Annual school affiliation will be via the county, regional, home country or the national association. Where a pupil attends a school not affiliated they may affiliate as an individual member

 

6. FEES

National fees for the ensuing year will be established at the AGM

 

7. OFFICERS

To consist of: President, Chairman, Vice Chair(s), Secretary, Treasurer and Safety, Ethics and Welfare Officer. To be elected each year.

 

8. GENERAL COMMITTEE

To consist of

  • Officers of the Association
  • one elected member from each of the four home nations
  • one elected member for each discipline holding a national final
  • one judging co-ordinator
  • one trophies and medals officer

 

9. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Officers of the Association and home nation representatives with powers to co-opt further members and appoint sub-committees as deemed necessary

 

10. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

To be held between April and June of each year. The Secretary must receive notices of motion, nomination for officers and committee at least 7 days before the AGM.

The business will be conducted in the following order:

  1. Minutes of the last AGM
  2. Matters arising
  3. Chairman’s report
  4. Secretary’s report
  5. Treasurer’s report
  6. Appoint officers and the General Committee. Appointment of Auditors
  7. Notices of Motion
  8. Arrange national competition dates
  9. Date of Next AGM
  10. Any other business

 

12. VOTING RIGHTS

At the AGM and any Special General Meeting the officers, general committee members and representatives from each region shall all be entitled to one vote each. Each region will have a maximum of 4 votes to include committee members and regional representatives. Each region must nominate its 4 named voters before the start of the AGM or special meeting. No proxy voting will be permitted. The presiding chairman shall have the casting vote and will therefore not count as one of the 4 nominated voters.

 

13. QUORUM

At an AGM 8 members shall form a quorum.

At executive and general meetings 4 different regional/home country members shall form a quorum.

 

14. SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

A special or extraordinary General Meeting may be summoned at any time by the chairman or on a requisition signed for and on behalf of not less than 6(six) affiliated schools. Not less than 21 days notice of such meetings shall be given and no business other than the business specified in the notice of the meeting shall be dealt with.

 

15. FINANCE

All funds accruing to the association from its activities, and trophies gathered under its name, will be the property the Association. The assets of the Association will be vested in the Trustees, who will be the officers of the association, two trustees being appointed to sign cheques. A cash statement and audited balance sheet to show all BSGA assets shall be presented at the AGM.

 

16. DISSOLUTION

In the event of the dissolution of a Regional Association, the funds remaining shall be transferred to the BSGA. In the event of the dissolution of the BSGA, any assets remaining after the satisfaction of all debts and liabilities shall be transferred to British Gymnastics to include apportioned amounts to the England Scotland Wales & Ireland Schools Associations

 

17. ALTERATIONS TO THE CONSTITUTION

Alterations to the Constitution and Rules can only be made at the AGM or at a Special General Meeting called for that particular purpose. Any such alterations will become effective forthwith. No alteration shall be made which will cause the Association to cease to be a charity at law.
