Gymnastics and trampoline are both high-risk activities.  As an affiliate body of British Gymnastics, the BSGA is provided with Public Liability Protection Cover:

Legal liability to pay legal costs and damages in respect of claims made against the insured arising out of BSGA organised regional and zone competitions that lead to a national final and for the national finals themselves, (with the exception of cheerleading competitions).

Principal Exclusions

There is no cover for liabilities arising out of:-

  • Criminal or deliberate acts
  • Ownership or use of any vehicle etc
  • Loss or damage to your own property
  • Medical malpractice

Teachers and coaches accepting responsibility for supervising pupils participating in BSGA organised events must satisfy themselves that they have the appropriate qualifications and have undertaken the necessary training to provide for the health, safety and welfare of all placed in their charge. This include current enhanced DBS clearance.

If you are in any doubt please check with your LA that their insurance programmes provide full and appropriate Legal Liability Insurance for off-site extra-curricular activity. This safeguards teachers from any personal financial liability and provides payment to those who are injured and entitled to damages. In particular, schools that use adults other than teachers in support of their extra-curricular gymnastics programmes must ensure they comply with all LA guidance in relation to insurance and child protection.

As part of the `duty of care’ placed on the BSGA it is necessary to undertake risk assessment at events. This will include ensuring that teachers and coaches taking responsibility for coaching and supervising teams are fully qualified to do so.

The BSGA does NOT provide Personal Accident Insurance.

Please note that the BSGA does not provide Personal Accident cover for individual members or schools.

To obtain personal accident insurance it is necessary to be a registered member of the National Governing Body – British Gymnastics.

However, many schools now provide accident cover for pupils at authorised events, which is why all pupils attending our competitions MUST be approved by a senior member of the school staff.
